Creating a Winning Culture! With Coach Scott Drew
Basketball has a lifeforce of its own. Behind this electrifying sport are coaches who lead teams to their pinnacle, shaping legends along the way. As coach of the 2020-2021 National College Championship men’s basketball team at Baylor University, Scott Drew is all too familiar with this world. In this podcast, Scott gracefully and expertly guides us through his formula for coaching success. He cites leadership, sacrifice and a robust vision as some of the most influential factors to a team’s achievements. Scott also speaks to a player-led team that is accountable at every tier – from its leadership to players, and playing with J.O.Y, which lead to “the greatest rebuild in college basketball history.”
When asked about his “non-negotiables,” Scott believes that players must have the right character for fellow teammates and fans to emulate. Other essential traits include integrity, self-control, and yes, basketball skills. Scott also divulges that both coaches and players must be realistic about their abilities, and achieving a team’s highest potential is in fact, a win. His parting advice to listeners: “Always try to win in the game of life.”
